Precision Backhoe & Truck, Inc was established in 1978 by Tom and Sara Finn, pioneers in the business of on-site waste water disposal and site development in Sonoma County. Among just a handful of other small businesses and professional engineers, they helped to establish the many standards of waste-water disposal that exist today. The values that supported their business then are the same as they are today: quality, integrity and respect
In keeping with 'family business' tradition, Tom and Sara brought onboard their son, Patrick, in 2001. Patrick has expanded PB&T's scope of business, while maintaining the company's values. Patrick developed SONOMA LANDWORKS in 2010, an expansion of PB&T that better encompasses the variety of work and development capabilities.
In May of 2013 we opened our retail business; bulk landscaping material sales at our yard in Guerneville.
We carry a variety of soil, compost, aggregate (functional and decorative), decorative bark, firewood, and PROPANE!
Tom Finn, my father, was born in New York city in 1948 and lived there until he was eleven. His family moved to Florida, then to Arizona and finally landed in California. My father loved Sonoma County, moved here and has never left. He met my mother, Sara, while attending Sonoma State University. He experienced may different jobs in his early years and came to realize that owning his own business would be his career objective. In his early thirties, my father put all of his savings into the purchase of a backhoe. A business was born; Precision Backhoe & Truck.
At a young age, my brother and I would ride around on the backhoe with our father. During breaks from school, I would accompany my father to his various jobs to learn from him and help out however I could. Being on a tractor has captured my interest for as long as I can remember.
My mother eventually took on the job of being secretary. She significantly helped my father with the success of his small business.
In 2001 I began working in the family business while taking business courses at SRJC. Early on I knew I wanted to take over the business. I had to work hard to prove to my parents that I had the enthusiasm and determination to excel in business. We eventually incorporated the business and I became a partner in Precision Backhoe & Truck, Inc.
My parents retired in 2007. Since then, I have worked hard to improve our family business through organization, marketing, and the use of modern equipment and technology. I have maintained professional relationships with county officials, engineers and other contractors in the workplace.
I am the second generation to carry on this family business and I plan on maintaining a strong presence in Sonoma County, offering our services supported by unmatched integrity.
